if there's one thing that i've always wanted is a practice space of my own. i mean, like a room dedicated to my garbage where i can have and my stuff set up and ready to go at a moment's notice. there is nothing that's more of a motivation murderer than having to set stuff up to get started. i'll carry that a bit further, and say that (for me) not having a space where i can easily have my computer/interface/speakers/headphones set up and have a place to spread out a notebook or some charts is certainly a wet blanket on progress.
for the past several months i've been using my laptop set up on a collapsible table propped on top of an ampeg SVP and had to put my notebooks and coffee on my bed. then my preamp and interface was on the dresser behind me and there were cable precariously dangling between everything because, well... that's all i have available. i hated it but it had to work. i did some rearranging and now i at least have everything in one place and it seems to be a lot better in terms of feeling legit. i still have a weird sense of claustrophobic anxiety when i look at it though.
a bonus is i can plug my tv into the laptop and display musescore while i can still work in reaper. that might actually be the only upgrade to the situation. that, having been said, i'm having ever so much fun learning jazz and although i'll never actually use a chart, they are interesting to work with.
